Stephan Kovacevich - Argerich Festival 2025
Xavier Ricarte began his piano studies at the age of six with his aunt and later with Carles Julià, developing at an early stage a strong vocation for the concert stage. His first steps as a performer were fostered by his selection by the Musical Youth Association, which led to a concert tour throughout Catalonia and to a sustained and natural relationship with audiences. His artistic profile was further shaped through competitions such as Intercentros Melómano and various initiatives supported by the DKV Foundation, expanding his presence within the Spanish musical scene.
Thanks to his outstanding academic results, he was awarded the Young Talent Scholarship and, on two consecutive occasions, the Excellence Scholarship from the Ferrer-Salat Foundation, enabling him to complete his higher studies at the Conservatori del Liceu of Barcelona.
During this period, he studied first with Stanislav Pochekin and subsequently with Alba Ventura, developing a solid technical foundation and a deep musical awareness. At the same time, he received several important awards, including the First Prize at the BBVA Individual Talent Competition, the Intercentros Melómano Special Prize, the Pianissimo Prize, the First Prize at the Isaac Albéniz Competition, and more recently the Prize of the Elise Meyer Competition in Germany. His participation in the Maria Canals International Piano Competition also led to an invitation to perform in the OFF Maria Canals concert series.
He has expanded his artistic training through masterclasses and artistic encounters with internationally renowned pianists and pedagogues such as Katia Michel, Akiko Ebi, Galina Eguizarova, Ewa Kupiec, Dmitri Alexeev, Mikhail Voskresensky, and András Schiff. He also received artistic training from Stephen Kovacevich within the framework of the Argerich Festival Hamburg, as well as artistic advice from Vladimir Viardo.
His concert activity takes place mainly between Spain and Germany, where critics have highlighted the sensitivity and energy of his interpretations, as well as his ability to establish a direct dialogue with audiences, integrating improvisationas a living part of his musical discourse.
Alongside his performing career, pedagogy plays a central role in his musical activity. Every summer he teaches piano courses for the Musical Youth Association, collaborating with other performers in educational projects, and serves as a jury member at the Maria Vilardell Viñas Competition, held in the hometown of tenor Viñas, Moià.
His teaching activity is rooted in the tradition of the Granados–Alicia de Larrocha school, developed during his time as a piano teacher at the Granados-Marshall Academy.
He currently teaches at the State Music School of Pinneberg and serves as a guest lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg within the Hobbypianisten programme.
In addition to his artistic and pedagogical activities, he is actively involved in cultural management as Coordinator of the Chopin Festival Hamburg.
He is currently completing a Master’s degree in Piano Performance at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg under the guidance of Hubert Rutkowski.
